matt gibson

Born in 1972 in country Victoria and after graduating in Architecture from Deakin University in 1997 Matt Gibson worked within various architectural and interior design offices both in Melbourne & London before setting up his own practice in 2003. Gibson worked in Australia in offices such as John Castles and Architectus before travelling internationally and spending an extended time in London where he worked with design luminaries such as David Collins and in association with Claudio Silvestrin on high end retail & hospitality projects. Following extensive world travel Gibson returned to Melbourne to work in smaller practice on high end residential homes and hospitality projects. Gibson has had an intimate experience of various project types including large scale Institutional, Commercial and Transport Architecture & Master Planning through to smaller scale furniture and boutique Retail design.

Gibson’s influences show in his work - merging the disciplines of architecture and interior design. His creative use of materials, bespoke design and ability to showcase light (natural or artificial) are seen as standout attributes. Gibson has received a number of awards privately as a student and graduate and also within Practice - most notably Australia’s Best Emerging Practice Award in 2005.

Matt Gibson is a guest tutor at Deakin University’s School of Architecture and has been a member of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects since 1994. Gibson is also a member of the Design Institute of Australia and is a Registered Building Practitioner.
